Oregon approves $20 million for new Hood River-White Salmon Bridge
The Oregon State Legislature has approved $20 million in lottery funds for the Hood River-White Salmon Bridge Replacement Project. The funding was included in a bill signed by Gov. Tina Kotek on Aug. 4, and comes as the crucial infrastructure project continues to gain more support and funding.
As of late August, the project team has raised nearly $119 million of the projected $520 million total cost to build the new bridge. Washington State has committed $75 million, and the project has won nearly $14 million in various federal grants. Washington and Oregon each contributed $5 million to the project early on. The project team aims to secure $125 million from each state.

The project team is aggressively pursuing $200M in additional large federal grants, which will offset the need for funding from other sources, including local tolls.
As of July 1, the Hood River-White Salmon Bridge Authority assumed oversight of the bridge replacement project. This includes design and construction, as well as operations, maintenance and toll-setting once the new bridge is open.
The current plan calls for construction to start in late 2025, with the bridge opening late 2029.
